JUNIOR BOX LACROSSE PROGRAM

The Junior Box lacrosse program was established in 2020 to enable German lacrosse players to participate in the Canadian Junior Box Lacrosse League

Information

Season schedule

The Canadian Junior B and Junior a Box Lacrosse seasons begin each year in March starting with a player selection process. These tryouts take place in form of several practice sessions, games and tournaments  over a period of about 4 weeks. The official season starts in April.

If you make it into a team, you can expect 3 training sessions per week and a total of about 20 seasonal games.

The Junior B season ends in August with the Founders Cup, where the winning team receives the coveted trophy. The Junior A season concludes with the Mann Cup one month later in September.

Age Limits

Junior B & A: Maximum Age of 21 years to be reached within the seasonal year.

Examples:
Date of birth 01/01/2000 (or younger)  eligible to play in the 2021 Season
Date of birth 12/31/1999 (or older)  NOT eligible to play in the 2021 Season

Difference Junior B and Junior A

The main difference between Junior B and Junior A is the playing level. In Junior B the playing level ranges from medium to good while in Junior A you meet teams that play on a mostly very good level.

Most Junior B teams cooperate with teams from Junior A. If a player’s level proves to be sufficiently good, the coaches may promote the player to join the Junior A team.

Cooperation

In Canada there are several regional Junior B and Junior A leagues. This is similar to the German league structure where the Lacrosse League is divided into regional conferences (West, South, North/East).

We are currently constructing the cooperation with the biggest and also most successful Junior B league, the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League (OJBLL). The reigning OJBLL commissionaire has already been contacted and has promised a cooperation.

Players

The plan

The Program aims to enable German players to play one season for one team in the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League (OJBLL). In just under 6 months from the beginning of March to mid-August the player can expect three practice sessions a week and over 20 games.

The Motivation

We want to provide players with a platform, an organizational structure, and financial support to help them getting a spot on an OJBLL Team and thus participate in a full season in the OJBLL.

In doing so, despite the great life experience, the players shall gain valuable international box lacrosse experience, increase their skill level and improve their tactical understanding of box lacrosse. On a long term, these players will be encouraged to share the learned skills, tactics and experiences within the German box lacrosse program and thus raise the level of German box lacrosse.

The implementation

Interested players have to apply with their resume (see „Help Players resume“) consisting of personal information, a Lacrosse CV, as well as data on their current fitness level. Furthermore, they are encouraged to create a video showcasing their lacrosse skills (for assistance see guideline Help Highlight Tape“). Players applications will be reviewed and then provided to the coaches of possible host teams.

The coaches of the OJBLL teams get access to the applications/player profiles through a password-protected platform. In case of mutual interest we will then connect the players and coaches to start the further process which will be closely accompanied and supported by us .

In addition, we aim to support each player with a small financial sponsoring to reduce all upcoming costs.

Upload Form

Here you can upload your application and your highlight tapes which then will be reviewed and provided to the coaches.

    Your SUPPORt

You can help us with your organizational skills or financial support.

The German youth (box)lacrosse program has a lot of growth potential and this is one step to motivate young players and further increase the German lacrosse level. Thus, we aim to launch this program as soon as possible and hope to already have it running for the 2021 season.

The organizational work is already in full swing and partially completed. You are very welcome to contact us and support the program with your input. Since the financial means for such an experience at this age are usually limited, you can also help out with donations and thus support the players.
